Kinesio taping is the imposition and fixation of special elastic bands on the child’s skin for several days in order to provide physiological movements of the joints and muscles, activating the processes of recovery and movement control. Kinesio tapes are elastic cotton tapes coated with an acrylic-based hypoallergenic adhesive gel.
The application technique was developed through the kinesiological tests, which in its turn gave the name to the material.
The Kinesio Taping method makes possible to improve the microcirculation at the various levels; it normalizes the muscle tone, reduces the acute and chronic pain syndrome and impacts on the numerous receptors - and thus are stimulating the tissue repair processes.
The usage of Kinesio Taping method in the child’s complex rehabilitation significantly improves its effectiveness.
In our clinic a combination of neurometameric reflexotherapy and Kinesiotherapy is used in case of the following states:
- motor impairment of various origins (cerebral palsy, Erb-Duchenne palsy, paresis of the extremities and other movement disorders);
- diseases of the musculoskeletal system;
- posture, scoliosis, torticollis disorders;
- foot deformities (plan valgus and equine-valgus deformity of feet).
The Kinesio tapes are applied to the skin, and the glue is activated due to the body temperature. At the same time, the patient is absolutely free in movements, and can do any hydrotherapeutic procedures. The tape effect begins immediately after gluing and lasts day and night for up to 5 days.
Since cotton is a breathable fabric, tapes can be left on the skin for up to 2 weeks. During this time it does not need to be unstuck and removed.
After taping you can take a bath, shower, and after water procedures use a towel or gauze to dry the tape (you can also use a hairdryer). Only after the full drying you can go out.
Be careful with the tapes; do not rub them to avoid peeling them off. It is advisable for children to wear tights or high socks (if tapes are put on legs) or a long-sleeved blouse (if taping is a hand).
In case of appearance of any skin irritations in the area of the taping, it is necessary to remove the tape and contact the attending physician. Tapes should be removed in the hair growth direction (from top to bottom). After 5-7 days after the tape removal it is possible to re-apply it.
