Auditory evoked potentials (AEPs): an objective hearing test that does not require words
Learn how auditory information is processed by the nervous system

Diagnostics
Auditory evoked potentials are a computerized test that records the nervous system’s response to sound stimuli. This method is used to assess the function of the auditory nerve and the brainstem structures.
Unlike audiometry, AEPs do not require active patient participation and provide objective data on the conduction of sound signals along the auditory pathways.
For more details on how this method works, read our article “Evoked Potentials: An Objective Assessment of Nervous System Function.”
What do we evaluate using the SVP?
The test allows for an assessment of the functioning of the auditory system at various levels:
Auditory nerve - quality of sound impulse transmission
Brainstem - transmission of signals to processing centers
Central auditory processing - the brain's response to an acoustic stimulus
Main Indications (SVP)
SVP is recommended in the following cases:
Delays in Speech and Psychomotor Development in Children
Autism Spectrum Disorders
Suspected Hearing Loss in Young Children
Hearing Loss of Unknown Cause in Adults
Tinnitus, dizziness
Neurological diseases, including multiple sclerosis and the effects of traumatic brain injury
