Treatment of Spinal Muscular Atrophy
Comprehensive rehabilitation for SMA — to support motor function, improve quality of life, and slow the progression of the disease.

Pediatric Ward
Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is a severe inherited disease that affects the motor neurons in the spinal cord, which are responsible for motor function. In children, this manifests as muscle weakness, decreased muscle tone, difficulty swallowing and breathing, and a gradual loss of mobility. Early-onset types of SMA (I, II) progress rapidly, so it is extremely important to diagnose the condition early and begin treatment.
The Bersenev Medical Center provides supportive rehabilitation for children with SMA. Following a consultation, a pediatric neurologist develops an individualized treatment program, which may include metameric injections, massage, speech therapy, orthotics, and taping. This comprehensive approach aims to slow the progression of symptoms, maintain quality of life, and maximize the child’s motor activity.
