The autonomic dysfunction syndrome

Синдром вегетативных дисфункций - вегето сосудистая дистония у детей

Autonomic dysfunction is the common name for all the autonomic nervous system (ANS) dysfunctions, which lead to a “failure” in the work of internal parts and body systems.

The ANS key functions are to preserve and maintain the constancy of the internal environment. This constancy is provided by the cardiovascular, inspiratory, endocrine systems and their main indicators (arterial tension, heart and breath rates, body temperature, perspiration, and metabolic rate). The ANS also fully engages in the mobilization of the body functional systems for adaptation to the constantly changing environmental conditions. These conditions include weather changes, physical and brain work, psycho-emotional stress, etc.

Autonomic dysfunctions are very common malconditions among population; women suffer autonomic dysfunctions 3 times as frequently as men do. The first appearances of disorders can occur yet in childhood or adolescence. Their maximal manifestations usually are detected at a young age (20-40 years).

Causes leading to autonomic dysfunctions:

  1. Emotional stress
  2. Hormonal alterations (puberty, pregnancy, menopause). Therefore, women, suffer these disorders much more often than men do.
  3. Moving to another country, changing the environment.
  4. Heavy physical, mental and emotional loads.
  5. Exacerbation of various diseases.
  6. Neurotic disorders.

It should be noted that there exist a genetic predisposition to the autonomic dysfunction development. If cardiovascular system disorders dominate, the pain in the left hemithorax (cardialgia), pressure pulse, heart rate disorders (tachycardia) are being noted.

If patients complain of pant, shallow breathing, or forced respiration (hyperventilation syndrome), as well as feeling short of breath and labored breathing, it indicates of the respiratory system disorder.

Gastrointestinal tract disorders manifest themselves as diarrhea, constipation, nausea, vomiting, flatulence, epigastric burning, belching, and abdominal pain.

Hyperhidrosis, heat and cold waves, low-grate fever, shivers are the features of thermoregulatory system disorders.

Specific vestibular disturbances are: rotatory vertigo, light-headedness.

Urogenital system disorders are manifested in intense itching, pain in the genital area, and frequent urination.

Autonomic disorders are necessarily combined with emotional disorders. Increased irritability, psychic tension, anxiety become personal constant companions. They accumulate fatigability, reduced efficiency, constant inner tension, bad mood, tearfulness, sleep and appetite disorders, and various fears.

If vegetative symptoms disturb your daily routine, make you to give up your habitual mode of life, lead to social isolation, you definitely need to make an appointment with a neurologist.

If you constantly feel an internal tension and have your ear to the sense of discomfort, if you suffer from panic attacks or fainting, and these symptoms are only intensifying with each passing day – you need a consultation with a specialist who will help by appointing the appropriate and competent treatment.

The metameric method of autonomic dysfunction treatment allows achieving a stable positive result of therapy. Stable well-being improvements, lengthening of remission periods are being noted; symptoms become less significant and are not bothering a person to live a productive life and work.
