Spondylosis is a chronic condition, which is characterized by bone tissue growth on the vertebral bodies’ surface, leading to their deformation. This occurs at the site of attachment of the longitudinal spinal ligaments, i.e. along the vertebrae edges. These growths can be in the form of protrusions or spines (osteophytes); they cause a narrowing of the spinal canal and intervertebral holes. Osteophytes can reach enormous sizes, causing limitations of the vertebrae bones mobility and nerve roots squeezing, as well as the spinal cord membranes and substance.
The anterior longitudinal ligament of spine may also be involved in the degenerative-dystrophic process. The clinical picture is dominated by pronounced painful local sensations, as well as chain movement syndrome and heaviness in a certain spinal part.
