“4 tips on how to use a smartphone and avoid insomnia, headaches and vision impairment”,   27.10. 2020

A modern person can no longer imagine his life without a smartphone, tablet, laptop.

With these devices, we get new information, read books, listen to music, chat with friends, pay bills, make purchases and much more. We spend on the Internet on average from 2 to 5:00 a day, and freelancers and 10-12 hours.

Our expert: Vladimir Andreevich Bersenev – Honored Doctor of Ukraine, neuropathologist of the highest category, founder of the Bersenev Medical Center.

These figures are terrifying, especially when you consider what position our neck is in at this time – we got a generation of people with their heads down. People manage to send messages while driving a car and walking down the street, they communicate on social networks, read the news while sitting in the subway and in line.

The latest medical research in this is completely disappointing – the load that our neck is experiencing can reach 27 kg! Judge for yourself: a human head weighs about 5 kg. But when we bow our head, the load on the cervical spine begins to grow – at an angle of 15 degrees this weight is about 12 kg, at 30 degrees – 18 kg, when the head is tilted by 25 degrees, the weight increases to 22 kg, and by 60 degrees – up to 27 kg!

Imagine that a child feels such a load for 3-4 hours a day (approximately this is the number of hours children spend on the Internet every day playing games). This amounts to 400 to 1500 hours per year, and in some high school students this figure reaches 5000!

  • Of course, this cannot pass without a trace for the human body, and sooner or later people begin to complain of headaches, dizziness, increased fatigue, blurred vision, pain in the eyes and cervical spine, sleep disorders, depression.
  • Try to look down at the device without bending your neck.
  • Raise your tablet higher if you feel uncomfortable. It is desirable that it is at eye level.
  • Every 30-40 minutes, try to do exercises for the cervical spine, make sure that the muscles do not swell.
  • Try to minimize your “communication” with your smartphone and tablet – communicate with real people.
